Mark Calaway is slowly embracing his real life in the public arena after nearly three decades as The Undertaker. Steve Austin comments on the transformation and his words are not too surprising.

AUSTIN APPEARED ON BUSTED OPEN RADIO

Austin appeared on Busted Open radio, and spoke to hosts Bully Ray and Dave LeGreca. While the main topic of discussion was the second season of his show Straight Up Steve Austin,” ‘The Texas Rattlesnake’ also discussed a variety of other topics, including the transformation of The Undertaker.

The Undertaker was known for his unrelenting approach to maintain kayfabe. For a long time, his personal life was largely unknown to the common fans. Even as internet arrived to be a major force, and ‘mark’ culture developed, Taker’s real life did not become a major talking point for over two decades. His then-partner Sara once appeared as a part of a storyline also involving Diamond Dallas Page, and his current wife Michelle McCool, herself a successful WWE superstar, was mentioned by John Cena during their feud a couple of years ago.

AUSTIN DEFENDED THE UNDERTAKER’S APPROACH

When host LeGreca stated that he did not feel comfortable seeing the shades of The Undertaker’s real life come to the forefront, Austin commented that while he appreciated LeGreca’s concerns, The Undertaker, or the man behind him, was still a human being. Austin stated his words as a fan of the business and a man who understood kayfabe and its consequences, and said that while protecting the business of pro wrestling was important, once one rode off into sunset, it was fair enough for him to show shades of his real life.

“I can appreciate what you’re saying. Because you’re one of those guys that couldn’t stand to see Taker lift up the veil and finally say after 30 years, ‘Believe it or not, I’m a human being.’ That’s the way I look at it because I’m a big fan of the business as anybody. And I understand kayfabe, I understand protecting the business, but when it’s time to ride off into the sunset, it’s time,” Austin said.

He could make an appearance at Raw every now and then, but Austin believes that The Undertaker should have the opportunity to speak about The Undertaker now that he cannot regularly become the character. After years into the business, he believes The Undertaker deserves to relax a bit.
