It’s been almost a year since Ryan Garcia was seen in action inside the squared circle. The youngster had defeated Luke Campbell on 2nd January to kickstart the year by winning the WBC interim lightweight belt. However since then, Garcia has been unable to return to the ring twice this year with his next fight still remaining uncertain, but the undefeated American has named Isaac Cruz as his comeback opponent.

Isaac Cruz had his breakthrough to the limelight with a brilliant performance as a world title contender against WBA (Regular) lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. It was a narrow loss for Cruz against “Tank” Davis and to the global boxing fandom, the 23-year-old Mexican is seen as a future world champion.
On the other hand, the recently crowned unified lightweight world champion George Kambosos Jr named Ryan Garcia as one of his potential title challengers, but the Aussie pugilist wants Garcia to step inside the ring and break his year long hiatus before giving him a title shot, and squaring off against Cruz might just be the perfect opportunity for “King Ry”.
“Cruz said he’d fight me in my patio, and he also said he’ll probably beat me. We definitely have to see that, and I look forward to that fight coming back,” Garcia said on a recent live session on social media, courtesy of FightHype.com, “It should be a good one. Cruz is a pressure fighter, a pretty good one, and has little movement. It’s nothing I haven’t seen before, but we’ll have to see how he does against me.”
The coming 2nd January will mark exactly a year for Garcia’s break from boxing, but the 23-year-old is confident that ring rust will not impact his performance, “I’m still just as fast and as explosive as I’ve always been and I think with my speed, and my timing and my reach, I think I should be able to get the job done.”
