Roman Reigns opponent for a match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view for the WWE Universal Championship was decided to be WWE Official Adam Pearce until this week. On this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Pearce tricked The Tribal Chief and changed the opponent for his match.
Adam Pearce outsmarts Roman Reigns on SmackDown
This week’s Friday Night SmackDown mainly focused on Roman Reigns and the contract signing for his match against Adam Pearce at WWE Royal Rumble 2021.
Earlier, The Tribal Chief had urged Paul Heyman to change the match from No Disqualification to Last Man Standing match and wanted to make sure that he teaches Adam Pearce a lesson.
In the final segment of the show which was the contract signing, both Pearce and Roman Reigns signed the contract. After Reigns signed, Adam Pearce told him, “I’ve waited all night for you to do that” smiled and left the ring.
While walking up to the stage, Pearce was seen limping and apparently suffered an injury. He then went on to reveal that he will not be medically cleared to compete at Royal Rumble, and WWE contract states that the card is always subject to change. He then revealed a ‘suitable’ replacement in his place and in came- Kevin Owens.
Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns’ feud:
The WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns has been entailed in a storyline with Kevin Owens for quite some time now. The stars had collided at WWE TLC pay-per-view last year in a TLC Match. Kevin Owens almost got the victory that night but it was Jey Uso who intervened and assited his cousin to retain the title.

The two had yet again squared off against each other on the “Christmas Special” edition of Friday Night SmackDown in a Steel Cage Match and again Jey Uso was the saviour of Reigns who interrupted and helped Reigns win.
It is to be seen whether Kevin Owens would have the last laugh at the pay-per-view by defeating Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WWE Royal Rumble 2021 on Sunday, January 31.
