RJ Barrett was fined $2000 by the NBA over flopping after the Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz game. The Jazz beat the Raptors 145-113 in the Delta Center. RJ Barrett had a disappointing night with just 4 points to his name. The post-game fine just adds more to the frustration of Barrett.

RJ Barrett struggles against the Jazz

In addition to the 4 points, he had 7 rebounds and 2 assists, but the overall performance was far beyond his average performance in his short tenure with the Raptors. RJ Barrett was traded to the Toronto Raptors by the New York Knicks on 30th December 2023 and has been in great form until today’s game.

In the 2nd round, with around 7 minutes to go, RJ Barrett pushed forward to get the rebound from the pointer shot made by his teammate Pascal Siakam. However, he failed to get the rebound and fell. The game shifted to the Jazz.

Fans react harshly to RJ Barrett’s fine over flopping

This has been pointed out by a fan as flopping is a technical foul and is supposed to be technical off the game too.

Recently, in the Raptors vs LA Lakers game, Anthony Davis flopped but wasn’t fined by the NBA and it has been criticized by the fans. Anthony bumped into Raptors shooting guard Gary Trent Jr and fell. Gary is 6 feet 5 inches and Anthony is 7 feet tall. The minor bump set up by Gary’s screening dropped Anthony.

Many fans have been critical of the NBA and harshly referred to them as “frauds” and “corrupt”. Fans also appealed that stars LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Joel Embiid are able to get away from the fines despite flopping.

RJ Barrett, however, is not the only person dealing with a fine. It’s the 2nd time within a week that a Raptors player or staff has been fined. Post the narrow 132-131 defeat to the Lakers, head coach Darko Rajaković fumed at the officials as he went on to speak about the poor officiating quality.

In an outburst, Darko stated “What happened tonight, this is completely BS. This is shame. Shame for the referees. Shame for the league to allow this.” Darko was fined $25000 for the harsh outburst.

The Raptors currently sit 12th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 15 wins and 24 losses. They will look to bounce back against the Boston Celtics in the next game.
