Red Bull, recognizing Perez’s impressive performances this season, extended a one-year contract to keep him on board. The team values Perez’s contributions and wants to retain him for at least another year. The Mexican driver has secured four podium finishes, consistently delivering strong results alongside his teammate, Max Verstappen.
However, Perez had other plans. He submitted a counter-proposal, requesting a two-year contract instead. His lawyers were involved in the negotiation process, emphasizing the importance of securing a longer commitment. Perez’s desire for stability and confidence in his abilities led him to push for a multi-year deal.
Red Bull’s Response
Red Bull promptly rejected Perez’s counter-offer. The team’s initial offer remains a one-year contract, but there’s still room for further negotiation. Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, commented on the situation after the F1 Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix: “The whole driver market is playing itself out, and we know exactly where we are at and what our options are. In the timing that’s right for us, we’ll make decisions about the future.”
Horner also expressed confidence in dealing with Perez, stating, “Checo’s always a very straightforward guy to deal with, so I wouldn’t expect that to be an issue.”
