RAFANTASTIC: Rafael Nadal defeats Novak Djokovic to clinch 13th French Open title

The 124th French Open Finals at the Court Philippe Chatrier in Paris, France on October 11 saw an epic showdown between the World No.1 Novak Djokovic and the Spanish ace Rafael Nadal, who equalled the record 20th Grand Slam title with Roger Federer.

Rafael Nadal emerged victorious in the final against Novak Djokovic. The match went on for 3 hours and it ended with the score 6-0,6-2,7-5.

The Spaniard dominated from the very beginning and finished the first set with a bagel. The bagel was first in the title match in Paris since 2008 when Nadal won the third set against Federer 6-0.Though Novak Djokovic fought for the second set, Nadal took the set home 6-2.

Rafel Nadal bagged his 13th French Open title and 20th Grand Slam title with an ace and he dropped to his knees,smiled and raised his arms in delight. The Spaniard wrote history in Paris. The win is also his 100th win at the tournament.

Following his historic win over the Serbian, Rafael Nadal said, “A very tough year but a win here means everything to me. It’s not the moment, honestly not for me, I don’t think today being the 20th, equalling Roger on this great number.”

He continued, “For me today this is just a Roland-Garros victory. Roland-Garros means everything to me. I’ve spent the most important moments, or most of the most important moments in my tennis career [here], no doubt about that… For me just playing here is a true inspiration and the love story I have with this city and with this court is unforgettable.”

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have squared off at every Grand Slam event. They have encountered fifty- five times, the most in tour-level match-ups in the Open Era with the Serbian winning 29 matches and the Spaniard with 26 matches.

It was their 16th meeting at a major event, their ninth in a Grand Slam final. It is their third Roland-Garros final that Rafel Nadal has won in the previous two meetings.

Rafael Nadal, the ‘King of Clay Court’ made his way into the finals after defeating the Argentine, Diego Schwartzman. Whereas, the Serbian, Novak Djokovic reached the finals after striving with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas for the win.

At the finals, Rafael Nadal had his last laugh as he lifted his 13th French Open title when he outplayed Novak Djokovic.
