The first matchday of Week 2 of the 2021-22 NBA season has concluded and it’s time to take a look back at the scores and highlights of the matches and standings of the teams.
After the frenzied action that unfolded over the course of the first week of the new NBA season, the second week unfurled with a total of 5 fixtures.
Knicks 112 – 99 76ers
A power shift in the East could well be in the making as the Knicks stamped their authority with a statement win over the Philadelphia 76ers at the Madison Square Garden.
Former Celtics player Kemba Walker top-scored with 19 while Julius Randle set the tone with 16 points, 7 assists, and 11 rebounds. Tobias Harris top-scored with 23 points while Joel Embiid had a pale outing after just 14 points to his name.
The contest’s turning point was the second quarter where the hosts were able to outscore the visitors 39-16 to walk away with a 20-point lead at half-time.
Thunder 98 – 106 Warriors
Golden State Warriors are now 4-0 in the Western Conference and their latest victim came in the form of the struggling Oklahoma City Thunder. In stark contrast of the Warriors, the Thunder now has a 0-4 record against their name.
Young Shai – Gilgeous Alexander stood out with a 30-point display, but it was not enough to warrant a win. Steph Curry led the scoring for the visitors with 23 points to his name.
The contest was even till the half-time break, but the Warriors took it away with an explosive 3rd quarter, where they nearly scored double of what the Thunder managed.
Spurs 121 -125 Lakers
Lakers notched their second consecutive win and were made to work hard for it without the services of LeBron James. The side secured the win only after the contest went into overtime, where they outscored Spurs 11-7.
The Lakers staged a brilliant fightback to send the game into overtime after walking out for the fourth quarter with a 12-point deficit.
Dejounte Murray notched a triple-double for Spurs but his efforts were thwarted by the duo of Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis. The former Wizards player missed out on a triple-double by 2 assists. He registered 33 points, 8 assists, and 10 rebounds. On the other hand, Anthony Davis notched 35 points, 4 assists, and 16 rebounds.
Mavericks 116 – 106 Rockets
In the Texas contest, the Dallas Mavericks came out on top courtesy of Luka Doncic’s heroics. The Slovenian notched 26 points and 14 rebounds for the win as the Rockets struggled to keep up in the second half.
Jazz 122 – 110 Nuggets
Nikola Jokic’s injury grabs the spotlight as the Nuggets slid to defeat in the fourth quarter. Rudy Gobert top scored with 23 points and amassed 16 rebounds for Utah Jazz, who are now 3-0 up in the Western Conference.
Reigning MVP Jokic was in immaculate touch after notching 24 points in just 15 minutes, but his appearance was cut short after the injury.
