Amid the glorious moment of clinching their 7th MLB World Series title after a wait of 32 years, Los Angeles Dodgers garnered some major woes as COVID-19 positive Justin Turner had joined the rest of the squad for celebration after the match. Now, while all Dodgers players have returned negative tests, the MLB has issued a statement upon Turner and is set to investigate his behaviour.
MLB to investigate Justin Turner for breaching isolation order
During last night’s match against Tampa Bay Rays, Justin Turner’s test reports from Tuesday revealed that he had contracted the virus and the third baseman was immediately removed from the game before the eighth inning. According to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, Turner was ordered to keep himself isolated for the rest of the match as well as the trophy celebrations.
However, the 35-year-old rushed to the diamond following the victory and joined his fellow Dodgers for the group photo and also held the trophy.

The incident had raised several eyebrows and risked to be a major contamination threat for the whole Dodgers squad as well as the Rays players who were on the field and had come in contact with Turner, with accusations on the player of ‘breaking isolation orders’.
Now, the MLB has issued a statement regarding Justin Turner’s behaviour, acknowledging that the player was at wrong for putting other plays at risk and also that he ’emphatically refused’ to obey the security on the field.
The statement goes as followed: “Immediately upon receiving notice from the laboratory of a positive test, protocols were triggered, leading to the removal of Justin Turner from last night’s game. Turner was placed into isolation for the safety of those around him.”
“However, following the Dodgers’ victory, it is clear that Turner chose to disregard the agreed-upon joint protocols and the instructions he was given regarding the safety and protection of others. While a desire to celebrate is understandable, Turner’s decision to leave isolation and enter the field was wrong and put everyone he came in contact with at risk. When MLB Security raised the matter of being on the field with Turner, he emphatically refused to comply.”
As of now, the MLB Commissioner’s Officer has initiated a thorough investigation of the incident and will also have a word with the Players Association.
All Dodgers players return COVID negative test results
Immediately after the celebrations, all Dodgers and Rays players were put to rapid testing and fortunately, all players had returned negative results. The MLB statement further asserted that another round of testing will be done on Thursday which will determine the players’ return to their homes.
