The NXT star Mercedes Martinez had a forgettable outing on this week’s edition of NXT. She was reportedly taken to hospital when she suffered an injury. It was her arch-rival Xia Li who knocked her out cold after a brutal kick during their match.
Mercedes Martinez suffered a legit injury
Mercedes Martinez had teamed up with Jake Atlas as they squared off against the team of Tian Sha’s Xia Li and Boa. They have been in quite a rivalry in recent weeks. The match was the result of an attack on Martinez by Xia Li and Boa. Jake Atlas had come to the aid of Martinez to provide some backup.
On this week’s NXT, during the match Martinez was distracted by Mei Ying, Li got the upper hand on The Latina Sensation and followed with the signature Roundhouse Kick.
Mercedes Martinez immediately collapsed to the mat taking the hit and the sight stunned everyone at the venue. Though the seriousness of the situation was not realized a first, eventually it was found that she was legitimately knocked.
She became stiff during Li’s pin attempt. Checking on her, referee had no choice but to call for the bell.
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp had provided with an update on the NXT star’s condition. He said that Martinez was checked in the back and staff were told she was being taken to the hospital for further evaluation:

She had a brief run on the main roster being the part of now-disbanded stable, RETRIBUTION led by Mustafa Ali. However, she soon left the stable and returned back on the black and gold brand.
Following her comeback she has been a part of some major storylines on the brand. Last December, she was in a feud with then-Women’s Champion Io Shirai.
Martinez had also competed in a Triple Threat Title match for the title at TakeOver: Vengeance Day which also saw Toni Storm.The veteran star recently unsuccessfully challenged for the Championship lagainst the Champion Raquel Gonzalez.
She recently ignited her rivalry with Xia Li, whom she had defeated at Mae Young Classics tournament back in 2017 to eliminate from the same. We will have to see when Martinez is able to make her return.
