Maki Itoh leaves AEW, heading back to Japan

The Japanese star Maki Itoh has been performing in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) for quite some time but now she has revealed her decision to return back to her native in Japan. She would continue her career of pro-wrestling in her home country now.

Maki Itoh who had made her debut in AEW in February this year took the decision to move back to Japan as she winds up her stint in AEW. She revealed the news on her official Twitter handle following her defeat to Riho during the premiere edition of AEW’s new show, “AEW Dark: Elevation.”

She went on to send out a tweet and she announced that she sees her future away from AEW and has decided to leave for her native. She said that everyone in the promotion had been generous to her and she had a happy time during her time in the promotion. No word has come about her upcoming plans with AEW.

She wrote, “I’m going back to Japan! I can only speak Makiglish but everyone was kind and I was very happy. Do you want to see me again? I’m sorry, the next schedule has not been decided. But I hope we can meet again! Thank you f–k you all #AEW.”

At last Sunday’s AEW Revolution, Itoh and Dr. Britt Baker had teamed up to defeat Riho and Thunder Rosa. Itoh is a star for Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling in Japan.

During the AEW Dark Elevation she was defeated by Riho. Itoh had created separation by delivering punches and went to the top. But, she had missed the diving headbutt and Riho then capitalized to hit the running double knees out of nowhere for the three count.

In 2016 she had made her debut in the DDT Pro-Wrestling during the Road to SUPER SAND-Dramatic Dream Tonkotsu event, where she was defeated by Miyu Yamashita.

Back in 2019, Itoh had won her first title, winning the TJPW International Princess Championship by defeating Yuna Manase.

Itoh had participated in the AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator tournament but she had faced Ryo Mizunami in the first round in a losing effort. which aired on February 15.

It is to be seen what future holds for the Japanese female star.
