The deal will include a player option in the final year as well. The contract will be formally signed soon with the franchise contingent having landed in Slovenia for the same. Doncic was part of the national team for the Tokyo Olympics where they were defeated by France in the semi-finals.

“The game of basketball has given me so much and has taken me to so many amazing places. I am humbled and excited to remain in Dallas as part of the Mavericks.

“I am committed to the organization and appreciate the support of my fans. Along with this new contract, I am also happy to announce that I am increasing my efforts and focusing on expanding The Luka Dončić Foundation.

My foundation is an international non-profit that will give back to places that mean so much to me like my home country of Slovenia, as well as the communities in North Texas,” Doncic said after agreeing to the new contract.

Doncic had a stellar season with the Mavericks, but his efforts were not enough as they bowed down to eventual conference finalists Los Angeles Clippers in seven games during the first round of the playoffs. They had lost to the Clippers during the playoffs in the previous season as well.

He was a number 3 draft pick in 2018-19 by the Atlanta Hawks but was traded to Dallas Mavericks with Trae Young moving the other way. He went on to win the Rookie Of The Year in his first season with the franchise.

The Mavericks are ushering into a new era after having parted ways with long-time coach Rick Carlisle. They went on to appoint Jason Kidd, who will coach the team in the upcoming season.
