Kevin Owens, the WWE star recently opined on what could possibly make the Royal Rumble match more exciting and revealed the change he would make if he could.
Kevin Owens wants to involve more stars
Fightful had released a compilation of the conversations with the several wrestlers, writers, and producers over the past few years.
They had recalled their memories of the Royal Rumble. Kevin Owens was also a part of this, and shared his thoughts on the thematic match of WWE.
The Royal Rumble match was created by the WWE Hall of Famer, late Pat Patterson and it is considered to be one of the most exciting matches in the company. It has witnessed several historic returns of the stars and legends, most recently the return of Edge from his neck injury.
The match usually involves 30 men but there was a 40-man Royal Rumble match in 2011 which was considered the biggest of all until the 50-man Royal Rumble Match that headlined their first Saudi Arabia pay-per-view, Greatest Royal Rumble.
Now, Kevin Owens opined that WWE should bring back the 40-man Royal Rumble match and that is the change he wants to bring.
He said: “They had done the 40-man Rumble one year, which I really liked. I wish we’d go back to that. The more people involved, the better. The longer it is, the better. If I were to pick any changes to make, I would add more people.”
The 40-man Royal Rumble Match took place a decade ago back in 2011. The match went on for 69 minutes and at the end it was former WWE star Alberto Del Rio, who won the contest and scripted his name in the history.
CM Punk who back then led The New Nexus dominated the entire first half of the match. It witnessed stunning returns of the stars as well when Booker T and Diesel made surprise returns to WWE.
Back then WWE had a limited roster to deliver the stars but should WWE bring the 40-man match, it has plethora of talents, who could get the opportunity to be a part of the contest. It is to be seen whether WWE brings the number back down the road.
Kevin Owens possibly will not be a part this year’s Royal Rumble Match, as he is scheduled to challenge Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing Match for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Sunday, January 31.
