Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City’s midfielder, after a remarkable performance throughout the season has been awarded the Premier League Player of the Season award for the 2019/20 campaign.

Kevin de Bruyne was only Manchester City player to be nominated for the award. He has beaten the likes of Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Southampton striker Danny Ings, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope and Leicester’s Golden Boot winner Jamie Vardy for the award.

Manchester City have had topsy turvy of a season and after being league champions for two consecutive seasons, they surrendered their Premier League title to Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool. Manchester City were dumped out of Champions League in the quarter final by Lyon after a 3-1 defeat. However, Kevin de Bruyne has enjoyed the most part of the season.

Kevin de Bruyne: The Belgian Playmaker

In the 2019/20 campaign, Kevin de Bruyne has 20 assists to his name and has equalled the feat of former Arsenal player, Thierry Henry, that he set back in 2003. Kevin de Bruyne has netted 13 goals as well. Thus, Manchester City has ended the season as highest scorers for three consecutive seasons.

 

Liverpool player, Alexander-Arnold was named Young Player of the Season,and his manager Jurgen Klopp won the award for Premier League Manager of the Season.

Kevin de Bruyne joined Manchester City for a club record £54 million in 2015 and penned a six year contract. With the team he has the Premier League titles twice, four League Cups and FA Cup once. He helped Manchester City achieve the score of 100 points in a single season in 2017/18 campaign.

 

Kevin de Bruyne has got praises from many pundits and fans. Likewise,in 2016, Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola once appreciated the Belgian midfielder after his amazing performance, saying, “I think he is a special, outstanding player. He makes everything. Without the ball he is the first fighter, and with the ball he is clear – he sees absolutely everything.”

 

Since joining Manchester City, he has made 222 appearances for the club, bagged 57 goals and 89 assists. He has won the Premier League Playmaker of the Season two times and Manchester City’s Player of the Season three times.

 

The Belgium international made his debut for the National side in 2010. He has 74 appearances and has scored 19 goals. He was in the squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and at UEFA Euro 2016. He put up great performances for Belgium at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where Belgium won the third-place play-off match against England, and he was named in the FIFA World Cup Dream Team.
