“Croatia was a very different country… when I was growing up” – Tallest tennis player in history announces his retirement

Ivo Karlovic, a former No.14 in the Pepperstone ATP rankings and one of the most unique players to ever grace the ATP tour confirmed his retirement from professional Tennis on Wednesday Via a post on social media.

“Dear fans and friends, I hope this post finds you all in good spirits and with a strong backhand! Some of you have noticed that it’s been a while since I played a tournament and still ask me on a daily basis if and when I’ll be returning to the tour. I’m sorry to disappoint, but with this letter, I want to make it official and finally announce my retirement.” Karlovic wrote.

The 44-year-old Croatian is known for his huge serve his height comes as an advantage for him his 6’ 11” frame makes his serves challenging for his opponents, and Karlovic steps away an eight-time tour-level singles champion.

Ivo Karlovic shares an emotional retirement post

Karlovic talked about many things in his retirement post. He wrote about his humble beginnings as a Tennis player in Croatia and how hard it was growing up in Croatia in the 80s and 90s.

“I’ve had a very gratifying, unorthodox and long career coming from extremely humble beginnings, especially for a tennis player. Croatia was a very different country in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up, and I’m very proud of my accomplishments and what I’ve been able to overcome.”

Korlovic then went on to thank all of his coaches over the years and every other person who had a role to play in Ivo Karlovic’s development into the player he is today

“I’d like to thank all the coaches and people who were involved in and contributed to my development as a tennis player. Without you this fortunate journey would not have been possible.”

Karlovic then went on to thank his family and friends for their unwavering support, he also talked about how he is looking forward to spending more time with his family.

Karlovic finally expressed his love for his fans and thanked them for being a part of his incredible journey. Though Ivo Karlovic is retiring as a Tennis player, he will stay connected to Tennis as a coach passing the baton to the next generation.
