JOHN CENA IS THE MOST ACCOMPLISHED PERFORMER IN WWE HISTORY

Cena’s WWE achievements are second to none. He is a five-time United States Champion, four-time world tag team champion, and a 16-time world champion. He is tied with Ric Flair for the most world championship reigns in WWE history. He is also a two-time Royal Rumble match winner and a one-time Money in the Bank winner, and has headlined WWE’s flagship event, WrestleMania, five times.

However, even “The Franchise Player” had to begin somewhere. Good Ol’ JR’s story, spoken to Sportskeeda Wrestling, reveals some information. According to him, Cena was juggling a number of part-time jobs in Southern California, while he trained with Rick Bassman at UPW. Ross, at that point a talent scout and an on-air persona for WWE, visited UPW to scout someone else. While he cannot the talent he went to check out, he remembers that a young “Big Match John” looked exactly like Sting in his original persona. Impressed, Ross decided to have a little discussion with the young professional wrestling trainee.

“John was up in Southern California, working part-time in several jobs – moving company, truck driver – just a litany of things, while he was training with Rick Bassman in UPW in Southern California. I was up there and actually scouting somebody else, I can’t remember who it was now. John looked like Sting, long-flat top haircut, so we had our little sit-down,” he recalled.

ROSS SPOKE ABOUT HIS DISCOVERY OF THE FUTURE WWE CHAMPION

As they were having the sitdown discussion, Ross went on to realize that he was a former All-American center. His strength coach was at that point was the coach at Oklahoma University. Most interesting was the fact that Cena had a comprehend knowledge of professional wrestling trivia and JR realized that he was a true student of the sport.

After reaching New York, he headed straight to the office, and met Vince McMahon. When McMahon asked if there was anybody he found viable as a possible talent, Ross told his boss that he found a talent who would headline WrestleMania in five years, to which The Chairman replied by asking him to go home and shower up!

“He says, ‘Where you been?’ I told him. ‘You see anybody you like?’ As a matter of fact I did. I think I saw a kid that will headline WrestleMania in five years or less.’ He said, ‘I think you need to go home and take a shower. You’re delusional.’ But I was high on John Cena,” Ross commented.
