NASCAR is heading this week to Talladega Speedway where races involve high-speed oval tracks where drafting and pit stop strategies play a significant role. : In recent years, draft racing has evolved into fuel-saving tactics. Drivers aim to save fuel throughout the race to reduce their refueling time during pit stops.
While manufacturer alliances are still strong at superspeedways, @joeylogano says another tactic has emerged amongst the field.

“The new one now is fuel-saving, that’s been one of the biggest things now. We saw at Daytona, we saw it in the last few years, but now every team is on it. Everyone saves fuel during the beginning part of the stage, so that they can shorten up their pitstop,” Logano said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Joey Logano Aims for Victory
Joey Logano, the talented NASCAR driver and two-time Cup champion, finds himself in a position: chasing that elusive first win of the season. As the Cup series progresses, Logano and his team are strategizing to maximize their chances while navigating the high-speed ovals of superspeedway racing.
Joey Logano and his crew intentionally conserve fuel during the early stages of races. By doing so, they aim to reduce refueling time during pit stops. Every second saved in the pits can make a difference in track position.
However, fuel-saving tactics come with a trade-off. Increasing tire degradation can counteract the benefits of fuel efficiency. If tires wear out too quickly, drivers may need to change all four tires during pit stops, negating their fuel-saving efforts.
