Jayce Tingler‘s managerial days with the San Diego Padres might be coming to an end as the latest reports have surfaced on the heels of the team collapsing as the 2021 MLB season nears the playoffs, while some counter reports termed the claims to be “premature” at this stage. Padres suffered a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of San Francisco Giants on Saturday but bounced back with a 3-2 win over them yesterday. They currently stand on a 78-82 record, a massive drop from their 67-49 from August.

Jayce Tingler’s fate to be determined once the regular season ends this Sunday

The report of Jayce Tingler’s oncoming departure from the Padres was first made by Jon Heyman of the MLB Network, who addressed that while Tingler was appreciable last year, his failure is a reason behind the team crashing down towards the end of the 2021 season.

“Jayce Tingler will be relieved of managerial duties by the Padres. Tingler is a solid baseball man who did a good job last season. But considering the team’s lofty expectations and late-season collapse, this news was expected,” tweeted Heyman.

Meanwhile, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune claimed Heyman’s report to be disputed, stating that the Padres themselves have termed the reports of Tingler’s departure to be ‘premature’.

The Padres call report by Jon Heyman that Jayce Tingler will be fired “premature.” This is all typical firing season stuff. As has been reported, this is AJ Preller’s call, and the expectation is Tingler and the coaching staff will be dismissed.”

Meanwhile, Dennis Lin from The Athletic claims that “no decision has been made” by the team regarding Tingler’s future in San Diego.

“Per A.J. Preller, no decision has been made on Jayce (Tingler’s) employment status at this time,” a Padres spokesperson says. “Heyman’s report is completely premature. He will be managing our game today.”

No matter the contrasting reports, it’s now clear that Tingler’s position at the Padres has become flimsy and once the team plays its final regular-season game this Sunday against the Giants, the decision on the 40-year-old’s future with the team is expected to be made.

Highlights:

  • Jayce Tingler is to be fired from the San Diego Padres, as reported by Jon Heyman
  • Kevin Acee claims Padres have termed the report ‘premature’, Dennis Lin states the team has not made any decision yet
