Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts recently scripted during the Christmas Day game against the New York Giants when shattered a record.
Hurts is certainly one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history and he has cemented himself as an annual MVP candidate. It has been noted that Hurts scored his 15th rushing touchdown of the season and in the process, he has set a new record for the most by a quarterback in a single year. In the first quarter, he found the end zone on Philadelphia’s opening possession after the patented “Brotherly Shove.”
Jalen Hurts helped his side to be on the offense and put themselves in a scoring position. The Giants went three-and-out on their opening possession and Philadelphia return specialist Britain Covey took the following punt. He returned it 54 yards to the New York 13-yard line. Meanwhile, Eagles running back D’Andre Swift ripped off a 12-yard run on first down and set up Hurts to punch it in.
Jalen Hurts sets new record
Jalen Hurts headed into the game equaling Cam Newton for the record, as he set the previous mark of 14 rushing touchdowns during his rookie season with the Carolina Panthers back in 2011. The 2020 second-round pick entered Monday’s game with 19 passing touchdowns which is just three short of his career-high of 22 that he set last season.
It has been noted that Hurts now has 41 career rushing touchdowns, ranking fourth all-time behind Newton (75), Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen (51) and Hall of Famer Steve Young (43).
The Eagles are hopeful of keeping themselves in position to compete for the top seed in the NFC. Should Philadelphia register a win over New York and the San Francisco 49ers lose to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, there will be a three-way tie for the best record in the conference with the Detroit Lions.
Jalen Hurts’ early touchdown helped the Eagles to be already on track to achieve that goal and we will have to wait and see if we could witness his prowess in the upcoming games.
