AEW star Jake Hager recently decided to announce his retirement from MMA and focus on his pro wrestling career.
Formerly known as Jack Swagger, he departed WWE back in 2017. Jake Hager decided to try his luck in MMA and eventually joined the Bellator promotion. In the years following his signing to Bellator, Hager amassed a 3-0-1 record.
It has been noted that Hager hasn’t fought there since October 2020 nad he previously stated that he was scheduled to compete in another MMA bout in October last year. However, fans noted that several months passed and he didn’t provide any specific update.
Jake Hager officially retires
During a virtual signing for K&S WrestleFest, Jake Hager confirmed his retirement from MMA. “Officially, I’m retired from MMA. I trained hard last year, but Bellator was jerking me off, so I retired and I’m focusing on wrestling now,” Hager said.
While he was busy with Bellator, Hager also focused on maintaining a balance in his wrestling career. He went on to strike a deal with All Elite Wrestling in 2019. It was quite a jump as he arrived to AEW. Hager joined The Inner Circle led by the veteran superstar Chris Jericho. He also joined Jericho Appreciation Society but last month, the Jericho-led faction split. Since then Hager has competed in only one match.
We will have to wait and see what’s next for Jake Hager in AEW.
