Jaguars rope in Trevor Lawrence as the first pick of 2021 NFL Draft

Trevor Lawrence, the Clemson Tigers quarterback who has been a sensation in the NCAA, has been drafted first overall by Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2021 NFL Draft on Thursday night in Cleveland.

Lawrence, who was picked ahead of New York Jets bound Zach Wilson and San Francisco 49ers bound Trey Lance, is expected to be the first choice for the new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer as the franchise aims for better performance in the upcoming NFL season.

Trevor Lawrence is the first draft pick in Jaguars history

Back in March, Meyer hinted the same when asked about his possible number one draft pick. “I’d have to say that’s the direction we’re going,” Meyer spoke to Peter King of NBC Sports about Lawrence.

“I’ll leave that up to the owner when we make that decision official. But I’m certainly not stepping out of line that that’s certainly the direction we’re headed,” the coach added.

After finishing with the worst record in the league last year with just one win and 15 losses, Jaguars marked their first draft pick for the first time in their 27 years of existence.

Considered to be one of the best high school quarterback prospects of all time, Trevor Lawrence finished went 34-2 as a starter for the Tigers and as a freshman in 2018, led them to the national championship.

The Heisman Trophy runner-up has clocked 10,098 passing yards, 90 passing touchdowns, 17 interceptions 18 rushing TDs in 40 appearances across three seasons.
