Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto Ramírez is positive of a future fight with Canelo Álvarez but insists that the faceoff “won’t be pretty” for his fellow Mexican.

Gilberto Ramírez (40-0, 26KOs) will be seen back in action after more than one and a half years next month as the undefeated pugilist is slated to take on Alfonso López (32-2, 25KOs) for the For NABF light-heavyweight title on 19th Dec 2020 at the Galveston Island Convention Center in Texas.

However, even a month before the 41st fight of his professional career, Ramírez already looks forward to stepping inside the ring against the WBA (Regular) super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez, who will take on the WBA (Super) super-middleweight champion Callum Smith on the same day.

The bout on 19th Dec, which will be the first promotion for Zurdo Promotions and El Tigre Promotions, the companies of Ramírez and López respectively who are co-promoting the fight, excites Gilberto Ramírez as his first promotion as well as marking his return to the ring since he fought Tommy Karpency back on 12th April 2019 at the STAPLES Center.

“I’m looking forward to hosting my first fight and appreciate all the support and love I’ve received,” Ramírez said in a recent interview, “I want to give special thanks to FITE.TV, El Tigre Promotions, Be Def Sports, and the state of Texas for being great partners in this event.

While Ramírez will be present in Galveston on December 19, Canelo’s fight against Smith takes place at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old southpaw is confident that “it won’t be pretty” for Canelo when the bout happens in future.

“I can’t wait to step back in the ring in what will be a great weekend for boxing fans,” the 29-year-old southpaw went on, “Canelo knows our paths will eventually cross and it won’t be pretty for him, but in the meantime, I’ll see you guys on December 18 in Texas.”
