African champions Senegal are now through to the knockout stages of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup following a 2-1 victory against Ecuador in their Group A clash this Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
It was until the final moments of the first half when the match saw its first breakthrough. Ismaila Sarr, who was dropped in the Ecuador box by Hincapie, took the penalty. With a slow run up, Sarr slotted the ball into the bottom right, while Galindez remained in the mid-line.
However, it didn’t take much time for Ecuador to appear on the scoreboard. After a superb corner from Plata, Torres flicked the ball to Moises Caicedo, who was unmarked at the far post, as the midfielder slotted in the equalizer on the 67th minute.
However, the scores were levelled for only three minutes, as the ‘Lions of Teranga’ stalwart Kalidou Koulibaly provided the winning strike. From a free kick taken by Gueye, the ball bounced off Torres’ shoulder, before reaching Koulibaly, who volleyed the ball beating Galindez.
