England opened up their campaign at the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 in brutal fashion as they thrashed Iran with six goals to two to mark their first win in Group B at the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday.
Jude Bellingham opened up the scoring for The Three Lions at the 35-minute mark, marking his maiden international goal.
Bukayo Saka, who netted one goal each in the two halves, followed up with his first one eight minutes later and Raheem Sterling made it 3-0 just before half time.
Saka netted his second an hour into the game, shooting into the top corner from a knockdown from Harry Maguire.
Mehdi Taremi, the only Iranian to find the back of the English net, scored their first goal three minutes later and the second one from the spot in the injury time as consolation.
Two more strikes from power subs Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish in the 71st and 89th minutes marked the fifth and sixth goal for Gareth Southgate’s squad.
