During the latest episode of his 83 Weeks podcast, former WCW maestro Eric Bischoff made an interesting revelation, that Vince McMahon wanted to buy Playboy at one point.
BISCHOFF RECALLED THE STORY
Bischoff mentioned how he connected Joe Francis, founder of Girls Gone Wild, to Vince McMahon and WWE to do a show or a pay per view. He also set up a meeting between Francis and Linda McMahon because Vince apparently wanted to buy the infamous magazine. Francis was also interesting in acquiring ownership of the magazine, but for different reasons. As the two were interested in buying the same object, he found it for the better of everyone involved to let them meet and decide upon themselves.
“I hooked up Joe Francis and WWE to do a show / pay per view. I set up a meeting with Joe Francis and Linda McMahon because Vince was interested in buying Playboy and Joe Francis was also interested in buying Playboy for different reasons so they both had different goals. They were both interested in the same property so I got those two together and Linda had a meeting with Joe in Los Angeles because of me,” Bischoff said.
BISCHOFF BEFORE PRO WRESTLING
Before getting into professional wrestling, Bischoff had a number of occupations. He acted in a training video for bank employees regarding fair lending practices, owned a successful landscape construction company, worked as a veterinary assistant, competed as a professional kickboxer, and ran a butcher, a profession which was reminded of by Hollywood Hulk Hogan at the end of the 1996 WCW pay per view event Bash at the Beach.
HIS AEW APPEARENCES HAVE RAISED QUESTIONS OF A FULL TIME DEAL
Bischoff returned to TNT for the first time since 2000 on August 5, 2020 when he appeared on AEW Dynamite to moderate a debate between Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy. He referred to his appearance as a cameo and he has not signed with the promotion.
However, Bischoff would later return to Dynamite on October 28, 2020 to ask Jericho and MJF questions during a town hall meeting segment, provoking the two wrestlers and setting up a match at AEW Full Gear.
