“Uncertain” Emma Raducanu unsure of Wimbledon participation after torrid start to the season

Emma Raducanu has acknowledged that she has “stopped worrying about results” and is unsure how she will fare at Wimbledon after refusing to set any goals for the grass-court season. The British No. 1 has been given a wildcard into this week’s Rothesay Open in Nottingham, where she will face Viktorija Golubic on Tuesday.

The competition will be an important part of her preparation for Wimbledon, when she will make her debut in 2021. She went on a run to the last 16 when she was still relatively unknown, but she had to retire from her tie with Ajla Tomljanovic due to lung problems.

But it was in September of that year that she made history by being the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam, defeating fellow teenager Leylah Fernandez to win the US Open at Flushing Meadows. Her victory catapulted her to superstardom, and she was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year as a result.
