“The Rated R Superstar”, Edge, has returned on WWE SmackDown, with a fixed target in WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
EDGE RETURNED TO ATTACK THE UNIVERSAL CHAMPION
In the closing minutes of the latest episode of WWE SmackDown Live, Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns marched to the ring and the former started to mention the number of top-tier WWE performers “The Head Of The Table” has vanquished during his current WWE Universal Championship reign. He started off by naming Rey Mysterio, who lost to Roman Reigns in a Hell In A Cell match at last week’s episode of SmackDown.
Heyman continued to mention superstars, including “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, who Heyman believed was frightened by Reigns. He kept on naming talents such as Braun Strowman, Edge, Daniel Bryan (with extra shade on his departure from the company) and Cesaro. He then went on to mention that no SmackDown superstar was strong enough to challenge Reigns.
It was at this moment when Edge returned, immediately attacking the WWE Universal Champion. When Edge looked certain to hit a con-chair-to on Reigns, Jimmy Uso appeared to help his cousin. Edge went on to attack Uso and speared him through the barricade while Heyman and Reigns took the opportunity to escape.
Edge was last seen at WrestleMania 37, where he, as the Royal Rumble winner, faced Champion Roman Reigns and fellow challenger Daniel Bryan for the WWE Universal Championship. The match, which main evented the second night of WrestleMania, was unanimously acclaimed. It ended when Reigns hit a con-chair-to on Edge and Bryan and piled one on top of the other, following which he pinned both of them.
SMACKDOWN ALSO INCLUDED A CORONATION FOR KING NAKAMURA
The episode of SmackDown also included a match between Jimmy Uso and Dolph Ziggler where the former was the victor. Liv Morgan faced Carmella in a rematch from last week, with Morgan managing to defeat “The Most Beautiful Woman in WWE” yet again. Big E managed to defeat Apollo Crews in a qualifying match for the upcoming edition of Money In The Bank. Seth Rollins and Bayley managed to defeat Cesaro and Bianca Belair when Bayley pinned Belair. A coronation for the new King of WWE, Shinsuke Nakamura, also took place.
