Eddy Reynoso willing to train Anthony Joshua, says he has good trains but “doesn’t take advantage of them”

Renowned boxing trainer Eddy Reynoso, who is famed for being the lifelong coach of the undisputed super middleweight world champion Canelo Alvarez, has shown a willingness to mentor former two time unified heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs). Reynoso believes that Joshua possesses a commendable trait but lacks its utility and wants to focus on that.

After winning his titles back from Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019, followed by a title defense against Kubrat Pulev in a year later, Anthony Joshua squared off against Oleksandr Usyk in September last year. Despite being the favourite, Joshua suffered a shocking unanimous decision loss at the hands of Usyk, the new unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO titleholder and is now in the works for a rematch this year in his second attempt at reclaiming the belts. Eddy Reynoso wants to work on Anthony Joshua’s distance and combinations

The Briton, although still linked with longtime coach Rob McCracken, has received guidance from the likes of Floyd Mayweather Jr, Robert Garcia, Ronnie Shields, Virgil Hunter as well as Reynoso himself, and speaking to Fight Hub TV, the 2019 trainer of the year who recently parted ways with former WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia, is willing to add AJ permanently under his mentorship.

“I’m a boxing trainer and willing to work with anyone. Him also,” Reynoso said on training Joshua, “Whoever, it’s just a thing of when the fights will be happening, and we are ready. Yeah, I spoke to Joshua and [Matchroom Boxing head Eddie] Hearn to see what can be done and we will see what’s next.”

“I would love to work with Joshua. Why not? My job is to train fighters, and I will see if I can make it work. I think work his distance more, better combinations. He has a lot of good traits, a lot of good physical traits, but doesn’t take advantage of them.”

Andy Ruiz Jr, who has clashed with Joshua twice in the past, is also a part of Reynoso’s stable, but the Mexican doesnt believe that having both Ruiz and Joshua train together won’t bring any conflicts.

“There’s no conflict there having Joshua there with Andy. They both don’t have fights, so there’s the opportunity to work with both of them. No, there’s no conflict, not at all. Andy has other fights coming and so does Joshua,” added Reynoso. [H/T Boxingscene.com]
