Dustin Poirier, known as “The Diamond,” recently went toe-to-toe with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a grueling title fight at UFC 302. The battle lasted over four rounds before Poirier was submitted by a D’arce choke in Round 5. As the fight progressed, damage accumulated on Poirier, leaving him with several injuries.

The Injuries:

  1. Broken Nose: Poirier’s nose was badly fractured during the fight.
  2. Broken Rib: He also suffered a broken rib.
  3. Partially Torn ACL: Poirier’s ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) was partially torn.

Recovery and Retirement:

The average recovery time for a broken nose and rib is around six weeks. However, the partially torn ACL may require a longer recovery period, depending on whether Poirier opts for surgery. Considering the demands of MMA training, Poirier could be sidelined for an extended period to ensure a full recovery.

Is Dustin Poirier Going to Retire?

Dustin Poirier has been contemplating retirement recently. After his UFC 302 loss against Islam Makhachev, he hinted that it might be time to quit due to concerns about his brain health. Poirier, who has had a successful career in mixed martial arts, recognizes the risks associated with the sport and wants to take care of his well-being.

However, it’s worth noting that fighters often grapple with this decision, and sometimes emotions play a role. So, while retirement is a possibility, we’ll have to wait and see what Poirier decides after his recent bout.
