WBC interim heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte might make his return to the ring in the English capital as Eddie Hearn hints a fight against Chris Arreola on 30th October at the O2 Arena in London is in the works.

Dillian Why was knocked out last year by the 40-year-old former WBC interim titlist Alexander Povetkin, terminating the Briton’s his chances of landing a WBC title fight this year.

However, Povetkin was knocked down with COVID-19 and it was an easier job for Whyte to avenge his loss in the rematch which took place in March, where the ‘Villian’ regained his interim status back.

Dillian Whyte vs Chris Arreola targeted for London, only if the latter nods to fly to the UK

Dillian Whyte was originally put at the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant on 18th September, but after the four belt undisputed super middleweight title fight was pushed back, it made Whyte’s next fight uncertain once again.

Meanwhile, Marchtoom MD Eddie Hearn has showed positiveness on getting Whyte back into the squared circle on 30th October, possibly against Chris Arreola at the O2 Arena in London.

“Hopefully, announce Dillian Whyte at the O2 soon,” Hearn said in a recent interview with Behind The Gloves, “I’ve been speaking to Luis DeCubas about that fight, and there are a few others in the mix as well.”

“I think if [Chris] Arreola wants that fight [with Dillian] in the UK, I think we can get it done”, he added.

A three time WBC heavyweight title contender, Arreola is coming off of two back to back losses and will be high on the spirit to get back into winning ways if the Whyte fight becomes a reality.

The 40-year-old American was most recently seen in action against Andy Ruiz Jr on 1st May at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, where he suffered a unanimous decision defeat. Prior to that, Arreola lost to Polish boxer Adam Kownacki on 3rd August 2019 in the same manner.

Pitting the weathered Arreola against Whyte is an impressive move from Hearn as it gives Whyte a higher chance to secure a victory before he can strengthen his claim on a WBC title fight, but only if Arreola agrees to fly to the UK for the bout, as the fight is unlikely to take place on the US soil with Whyte being less popular outside his home country.
