Brazilian right back and former FC Barcelona stalwart Dani Alves has recently been on the headlines for joining Liga MX side UNAM and the 39-year-old revealed that he is a huge fan of the country’s superstar boxer, Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo is the coolest of the cool: Dani Alves
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is one of the most accomplished figures in the sport of boxing. A four-division world champion, Canelo has won titles in the light middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight and is the reigning undisputed champion at super middleweight, and has one of the biggest fanbases in combat sports.
One luminary name out of Canelo’s massive fandom is none other than Dani Alves. The veteran footballer, who recently joined Mexican club UNAM after making a return to his former home Barcelona last season, has often shown support for Canelo on social media on numerous occasions and also revealed that characters like El Chavo, El Chapulín, and La Chilindrina- some fundamental names in Mexican culture, has been a huge influence on him since he was a child.
The biggest stance Alves took for Canelo was back in May when he suffered a shocking unanimous decision defeat to WBA Light Heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol, and the footballer took to social media to show support for his boxing idol.
“For champions like you there are no defeats, situations like that always raise our level, man,” Alves wrote at that time, “Blessings my Canelo and for the next chingón”. [H/T Izquierdazo]
Last year, Alves also appreciated Canelo in one of his Instagram posts, “In [terms of] style [he is] the coolest of the cool. El Canelo,” while making a boxing stance.

Aside from being a Canelo fan, Alves is a follower of the sport itself and in a recent clip he posted on Instagram, showcased his sparring skillsets. “Always ready papiiii!!” he captioned the post.
