It appears that Cris Cyborg’s professional boxing debut, which was slated to take place this 25th of September, has become uncertain as her opponent, Simone Silva, is currently under a 60-day medical suspension, potentially putting the fight in jeopardy.
The reigning Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion and the only “Grand Slam Champion” in MMA, Cris Cyborg has been in conversations about switching the cage with the squared circle.
The 37-year-old recently fought out of her contract against Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279 in April, and there had been speculations that the Brazilian will switch houses and join PFL. However, Cyborg recently turned down such rumors and insisted that her debut as a professional boxer was on the way, a claim that has now reached legitimacy.
Last month, it was finally confirmed that Cyborg will make her boxing debut against boxer and MMA fighter Simone Silva in the co-main event at Fight Music Show 2 in her birthplace Curitiba, the same venue which marked her UFC debut back in 2016.
The announcement from Cyborg happened just a couple of days before Silva’s fight against Jessica Camara on 13th August in Houston. However, after her knockout in the fight, Silva was slapped with a medical suspension for 60 days and 25th September, when the fight takes place, will be 43 days into her two-month-long suspension period.
The Brazilian Boxing Organization has decided not to supervise Silva’s fight due to his current suspension, as per MMA Fighting. Silva will have to undergo medical testing in order to compete safely, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which sanctioned his last fight.
