The upcoming undisputed female middleweight championship clash between Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall has been provisionally pushed back to the 15th of October in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall expected to return to London On 15th October
Shields and Marshall – the two grudge rivals were set to trade blows this 10th September at the O2 Arena in London for the four belt unification fight, with Shields’ WBA, WBC and IBF belts on the line against Marshall’s WBO title.
However, after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 yesterday, the fight is now postponed to the next month and will return to the English capital on 15th October. The tickets purchased for the event remain valid for the rescheduled date.
“As a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the British Boxing Board of Control has made the decision to postpone Saturday’s event, BOXXER: Legacy – Shields vs Marshall,” read an official statement from BOXXER, “Our sincere thoughts are with His Majesty King Charles III and the Royal Family during this profoundly sombre time.”
“We are working with all parties to provisionally reschedule for Saturday, 15th October, at The O2 in London.”

“This is an unprecedented moment in our history and our sincere thoughts are primarily with the Royal Family and the nation at this time,” Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of BOXXER stated, “Out of respect, the British Boxing Board of Control has decided to postpone Saturday’s show.” [H/T Sky Sports]
A statement was followed up from British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) as well.
“The British Boxing Board of Control have decided that all tournaments this weekend will be postponed as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” BBBofC stated, “We join as a nation in mourning and pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her dedication to our country during her long reign and the legacy she leaves behind.”
