Chelsea midfielder Kai Havertz tested positive for coronavirus and is currently self-isolating. The detection left him out of contention for Chelsea’s Champions League home clash against Ligue 1 side Rennes.

Ahead of their Champions League tie, manager Frank Lampard stated that the entire squad and staff have undergone tests out of which only Havertz’ sample returned as positive.

“It’s significant because he’s tested positive for Covid in the testing going into this game,” Lampard told BT Sport.

“So he’s come away from the squad, he’s in isolation as the doctor’s orders are and we move on. He isolates for that period and we’re wishing him well at home.
“Everybody has been tested as a whole squad since and we have negative tests, so it’s hopefully a case of we’re taking, everyone is negative and we move on in the short term.”
As a result of this condition, Havertz is in line to miss Germany’s fixtures against the Czech Republic in a friendly and Nations League matches against Ukraine and Spain.
With 4 goals and 3 assists in his first 10 appearances for the London side, Havertz is slowly making his mark along with his fellow fresh attacking recruitments in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Europe has seen a second wave of the pandemic which has prompted England to switch into four weeks of lockdown with football levels above tier 4 given the green light to continue for now.

Chelsea have also slowly started making the climb in the Premier League table with a 4-0 win against Burnely and a goalless draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The defensive woes have diminished with the trio of Eduoard Mendy, Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva being instrumental in their roles leading to 5 consecutive clean sheets.
