Former WBC middleweight titleholder Julio César Chávez Jr has lashed out at Canelo Álvarez soon after the WBC and WBA (Super) super-middleweight champion’s victory over Avni Yıldırım, challenging him to a faceoff at 175 pounds, without any payment!

Canelo’s easy title defense against Yıldırım was not well received by everyone. Already having faced criticism even before the fight, the comfortable three-round thrashing of the mandatory Turkish challenger has become a subject of flak from many.

I am not going to charge you anything: Chávez Jr calls Canelo for a rematch at 175

Having the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world pitted against someone who has been absent from the squared circle for two years became a predictable one-sided affair, something that has irked César Chávez Jr so much that he is willing to fight his former adversary for free.

Interestingly, the two squared off against each other back in May 2017, which was another domination show for Canelo as he outperformed Chávez Jr to a unanimous decision victory.

However, Chávez Jr accuses fights like Canelo-Yıldırım are nothing but from a profit making mentality, insisting that he won’t charge a single penny to have the middleweight rematch with his fellow Mexican.

Win @Canelo ! But one way or another can not give the viewers a worthy show!” Chávez Jr tweeted, “especially when it claims to be the best! a rival without 2 years without getting into a ring! I get on @Canelo and I do not charge 175 pounds the day you want!

“I repeat with these rivals the only thing that implies that you want to generate money! And I am not going to charge you anything!” the 35-year-old went on, “I will fight for free with @Canelo, and he will not recognize it!

I wouldn’t win more money with anyone than a rematch with me! With no one the only condition 175! No money!” Chávez Jr added.

Following his loss against Canelo four years back, Chávez Jr went on a two-year, three months hiatus away from the ring, and returned in August 2019 against Evert Bravo.

Unfortunately, he failed to come out victorious in his next two fights, against Daniel Jacobs and Mario Abel Cazares in December 2019 and September 2020 respectively. However, Chávez Jr bounced back against Jeyson Minda with a 4th round TKO in November last year, which also marks his latest boxing appearance.
