The fight between Unified Female Light Welterweight World Champion Chantelle Cameron and Undisputed Female Welterweight titlist Jessica McCaskill has been in conversations for quite some time, and latest reports have claimed that the 140-pound fight has been added to the Dmitry Bivol-Gilbert Ramirez card on November 5th in Abu Dhabi.
Chantelle Cameron will defend her WBC and IBF belts against Jessica McCaskill
The bout will see Cameron putting her WBC and IBF titles up for grabs against McCaskill, who is stepping down from 147- where she holds the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO belts. The official announcement of the fight is expected to take place this week. No Smoke Boxing was the first to report about Cameron vs. McCaskill, while BoxingScene.com added that the deal is reached for ‘CasKILLA’.
McCaskill, who has held the undisputed female welterweight championship since 2020, is coming off of a third round knockout of Alma Ibarra on 25th June in San Antonio, which also marked the 37-year-old’s third title defense. Cameron, meanwhile, was last seen in action against Argentine pugilist Victoria Bustos on 21st May, marking a 10-round unanimous decision win.
Back in July, “Il Capo” revealed that she originally make a jump to 147 and challenge McCaskill’s undisputed crown but the latter’s handlers want the four belt champ to drop down to 140 and target Cameron’s belts instead.
“She is 147-pounds undisputed world champion,” Cameron told Metro.co.uk at that time, “I have said: ‘You have all the belts, you’re undisputed champion, lets for your belts.’ But her and her team don’t want any of that. They want to come down to 140, box for my three belts. They just want to fight at 140.”
The main event of the November 5 card will feature a WBA (Super) Light Heavyweight championship fight between the reigning titlist Dmitry Bivol and undefeated Mexican Gilbert Ramirez. Bivol is coming from a shock win over Canelo Alvarez back in May while Ramirez’s last outing saw him Dominic Boesel via 4th round knockout win.
