UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones is often regarded as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter in the world. Though he hasn’t competed in the UFC in nearly three years, he still belongs at the top of the table in his division. He last fought at UFC 247 in February of 2020. He won the fight via decision but it was remarked as a controversial win. Jon Jones then had a dispute with UFC President Dana White over a pay issue in May 2020, Jones Jones then vacated the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and stated that he will be moving up to the heavyweight division to fight for the title.
Jon Jones is not yet assigned to fight anyone for his heavyweight debut. Now he had recently called out the former two-time heavyweight champion and arguably the greatest UFC heavyweight of all time, Stipe Miocic. It was stated in Vwin’s sports platform that he still aims to become the champion and is going through a very hard training camp before making his much anticipated UFC heavyweight debut.
But the big question is now whether Jon Jones will ever be a UFC champion again in the UFC. If he can then he will have to challenge himself much further to become the champion of one of the most dangerous divisions in the UFC which is the heavyweight division.
Jon Jones is already one of the greatest fighters in UFC history. He is 26-1-0-1 in his MMA career and is 19-1-0-1in his UFC career. Jones has fought 15 fights for the title and won all of them apart from the fact that his win over DC was overturned into a no-contest due to a failed drug test.
Jon Jones’s road toward UFC heavyweight title
Now If Jon Jones has to become a champion again he will have to take on the top-level heavyweight fighters. He was recently rumored to have tagged along with the UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. The fight was in talks but never materialized. Jon Jones said that he had a big contractual dispute with the UFC and because of that the fight was never done.
Now if Jon Jones wants to become champion he will have to face the champion Francis Ngannou for the title. Recently Jon Jones was also called out by Stipe Miocic. Miocic is the former two-time UFC champion. He was recently called out by Jon Jones who said that he wants to make a fight between the greatest heavyweight of all time vs the greatest light-heavyweight of all time. Jones was also called out by Tai Tuivasa who is the new top contender in the division.
For Jon Jones to become the new champion he would need the UFC to set him up against the champion. The champion Ngannou is currently coming off a win over Ciryl Gane who was the Interim champion. If this situation doesn’t come up then Jon Jones might have to take on the top contenders in the division. Jones might be fighting Stipe Miocic next as many rumors are that the UFC is setting this fight up next. Also, many new faces are rising in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings such as Tom Aspinall, Chris Daukaus, and Curtis Blaydes.
Jon Jones who’s one of the best if not the best fighter in the UFC ever will have to go through some tough challenges to become the new heavyweight champion but considering his skillset he matches very well with the top contenders in the heavyweight division and will be giving a tough time for everyone who will be stepping in his way words the championship title.
