WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T recently opened up on one of the most controversial moments of his career, his Wrestlemania 19 loss against Triple H.
BOOKER T AND TRIPLE H FEUDED IN CONTROVERSIAL FASHION
The duo feuding over the World Heavyweight Championship on the Raw brand. Triple H won the title three months prior at Armageddon by defeating then-champion Shawn Michaels and then defended the title against Scott Steiner in successive pay per view events. Then on Raw, Booker-T won a 20-man battle royal by last eliminating The Rock to become the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.
The feud was seen as heated, with Triple H cutting a controversial promo where he vigorously downplayed his opponent’s WCW success. He implied that his opponent, as a convicted criminal, would never win a world championship in WWE. Triple H’s tirade on his opponent was seen by some members of the pro wrestling community to be racist, although he denied the claim.
In the match at Wrestlemania, Booker began in control of the match over Triple H, however, Ric Flair, who was at ringside in Triple H’s corner, threw his knee into the steel steps, leading Triple H to regain composure. In the end, Triple H defeated him to retain his Championship.
About the match, Booker T said that the negative reception of the match arose from the fact that people in the arena wanted him to win the watch and were irritated by the actual result. Even some of the office guys approached him and said that he should have won the match.
HE DOES NOT RULE OUT A REMATCH
For a rematch between the duo, He accepts Saudi Arabia as an option, as it is where one can talk about big money. “For me to get in the ring, the situation would have to be right. I would want to get paid. Somebody might say I’ve wrestled at my place, and yeah that’s my place and my job to teach my students and show them how it’s done sometimes. But yeah I would love to have another match, situations right, with Triple H,” he says.
