Victor Oladipo’s season came to an end after he ruptured his quadriceps tendon. The Miami Heat star underwent surgery to treat the same, but the recovery time could, unfortunately, take a lot longer than initially assumed.

Reports suggests that the point guard could very well miss the entire 2021-22 season following the surgery that was conducted on Thursday.

“They haven’t announced it, but there’s a good chance Oladipo’s gonna miss all of next season,” ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on Friday’s edition of the Hoop Collective podcast.

Oladipo was traded to Miami Heat by Houston Rockets on deadline day and has proceeded to make only four appearances so far before injury struck.

He has averaged 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 33 games spawned across his stints with Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat.

Oladipo will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason following the end of his 4-year $85 million contract, and the injury is expected to make a huge impact on his next move and the deal that it brings along with it.

Recurring injuries halting Oladipo from a big-money move

The two-time All-Star is facing injury issues ever since his major injury in 2019. His latest injury occurred against the Lakers where he went for an uncontested ball, only to damage his knee.

“I had a lower extremity injury, so I wasn’t able to use my lower extremity for a long period of time,” “One leg is stronger than the other. I have some hypertrophy in one leg than the other. Working my way back and finding my balance is something I’m still continuing to work at.” Oladipo told reporters last month.

With an appearance in the next season looking highly unlikely, the wait for Oladipo’s next franchise will be a long one. The 28-year-old is not expected to get a maximum deal for the next chapter of his career.

“As it is, it is increasingly unlikely that Victor will get anything near a maximum deal this summer, in terms or annual dollars or even years, from the Heat or elsewhere. Thursday’s injury rekindled plenty of questions that never were far removed from the conversation.” Ira Winderman of The Sun claimed.

As far as Miami Heat are concerned, they are carrying some serious momentum moving into the playoffs. The franchise are on a four game-winning run which includes back to back wins over Boston Celtics and a triumph over Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia 76ers.
