The NBA announced on Tuesday that they have issued a 25-game suspension for the Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson. Thompson’s without-pay suspension starts from Cleveland’s upcoming game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Tristan Thompson became a subject to such harsh punishments because he was found guilty of violating the NBA’s anti-drug program.

The Cavaliers are on a great run of form with an eight-game winning streak and are currently 4th in the Eastern Conference with 26 wins and 15 losses in 41 games. But on the other hand, Thompson is having one of the worst seasons of his career.

The 32-year-old contributes career-low averages of 3.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 36 games off the bench this season. Despite his recent performances, Tristan is a good player and had a pretty decent career averaging 8.8 points and 8.2 rebounds over 766 career games, including 478 starts, across different NBA teams, including the Cavaliers, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, Indian Pacers, and Boston Celtics.

What type of drugs did Tristan Thompson take?

Tristan Thompson was suspended for using SARM LGD-4033 and Ibutamoren. These drugs are used to increase physical capabilities and also enhance performance. SARM LGD-4033 is an anabolic-androgenic steroid that is used as a muscle enhancer by athletes.

They provide the body with an additional boost of Testosterone which is naturally produced in the body in small quantities. Ibutamoren is also an anabolic substance that is used to increase lean body mass. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has sanctioned these drugs for normal use but it is strictly prohibited in the NBA.

Thomson is a respectable figure for the Cleveland Cavaliers fans as he won the NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016. He had numerous stints with several NBA teams including the Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers—before returning to the Cavaliers in 2023. But this incident came as a shock to his fans. This suspension can affect the Cavaliers too as they will be looking to continue their winning momentum.
