Terence Crawford Says Knocking Out Errol Spence Jr Would Be “Icing On The Cake”

Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) is already confident in defeating Errol Spence Jr (28-0, 22 KOs) next month, but if that win comes in the method of a knockout, then the WBO welterweight champion says it would be “icing on the cake”.

I never go in there looking for the knockout: Terence Crawford

Crawford and Spence would lock horns on 29th July at the prestigious T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the undisputed crown at 170, with Crawford’s WBO title at the stake against Spence’s WBC, WBA (Super), and IBF belts.

The fight is one of the most anticipated of this generation, with two of the greatest pugilists in the sport right now. Crawford, who has knocked out 13 out of his 14 last opponents and has 10 of them in a row, says he’s not actively looking to KO Spence, but if such a stoppage happens, it would be the cherry on top.

“Like I always say, I never go in there looking for the knockout. But if it comes, it comes, that’s icing on the cake,” said Crawford during a recent interview with BoxingScene.com and other media outlets regarding the undisputed clash.

While Crawford is known for his knockout prowess in the ring, Spence isn’t really lacking in that department either. The unified champion has a 78% career knockout, but three of his last four fights have gone the full 12-round distance.

All that being said, clinching the undisputed throne is the only goal of Crawford, over the method of win.

“My only plan is to become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world. That’s the only thing I am thinking about right now,” Crawford went on. “All of the fighters that I have fought have prepared me for this moment.”
