Teofimo Lopez wants to return to action and plans to do so against the toughest challenges he can get.
The WBO Super Lightweight champion is aiming to secure fights with high-caliber opponents to continue elevating his legacy in the sport. On his radar are notable names like Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia as well as the winner of the showdown between Devin Haney and Regis Prograis.
I’m waiting for these guys to go and show me something: Teofimo Lopez
The former unified lightweight champion is coming off a unanimous decision win over Josh Taylor on 10th June in New York, winning Taylor’s WBO 140-pound gold and becoming a two division champion.
Four months have passed since then and the American pugilist, who is of Honduran descent, is already planning his next fight and expressed his desire to face Gervonta Davis or Ryan García.
His words also seem to indicate that Lopez has no interest in seeking a rematch with George Kambosos Jr., whom he faced on November 27th 2021 and lost his undefeated record and all three of his 135-pound titles.
“I would like to fight Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia,” Lopez said in a recent interview with Pro Box TV. “We tried to make a fight with George Kambosos (21-2, 10 KO’s), but they would rather take the fight with Vasyl Lomachenko. Devin Haney is fighting Regis Prograis at 140lbs. I’m waiting for these guys to go and show me something.”
