Doherty aims to excel at Spurs

The former Wolves man stated that he wishes to take his game to a whole another level under Jose Mourinho with Tottenham. Moreover, he claimed that his time with Wolverhampton Wanderers was fantastic. He said:

“My time at Wolves was fantastic – I haven’t got a bad word to say about the whole club at all.

“I just feel like coming here is going to take my game and my career to the next level.”

“At Wolves I just had all the experiences — disappointment and then obviously getting promoted and stuff like that, but then taking it to the next level and getting into Europe as well,” Doherty said in a statement.

“I think it would have been tough [to leave Wolves] if I was maybe going backwards or sideways but I feel like at Tottenham now I’m really taking a big step forward — just with the facilities, everything at the club and the manager here.”

The right-back was instrumental in Wolves’ recent domestic and continental success. The Irishman featured in the side’s promotion to the Premier League and also their run in the Europa League which ended in the last 8 against eventual champions Sevilla.

Tottenham pine for silverware under Mourinho

After last winning a trophy in 2008, the Lilywhites are in a dire need of a trophy. Last season was defining for the team with the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino. Jose Mourinho’s appointment saw the team earn a Europa League spot after a sixth-place finish in the league.
