WBC interim lightweight champion Ryan Garcia  (21-0, 18 KOs) has finally broken silence on his much awaited comeback to the ring and has officially announced that he will be fighting this October in Los Angeles.

Garcia made a great start to 2021 by defeating Luke Campbell via a 7th round TKO on 2nd January. The following months saw a number of rumours and speculations regarding ‘King Ryan’s next bout, but none of those ultimately met any legitimacy.

However on 13th April, Garcia’s next fight was announced, and he was slated to defend his WBC interim status against Javier Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) on 9th July, a fight which would have determined the challenger to Devin Haney’s WBC lightweight title later this year.

However, the fight was called off a week later after Garcia opened up that he had been dealing with anxiety and depression and said that he was going to withdraw from the fight to  “focus on becoming a stronger version” of himself.

“At this time it is important to manage my health and wellbeing. I have decided to take some time off to focus on becoming a stronger version of myself. I hope to be back soon and am looking forward to stepping back into the ring when I am my healthiest self. I want to Thank God, my family, my doctors and my supporters,” the 22-year-old wrote back then. (H/T BoxingScene)

The good news is, Garcia is now ready to return to the squared circle and recently took to Instagram to reveal that he will be back in action this October in Los Angeles, along with a short clip of his trailing drill.

“I’m back in October @gymshark and I’m having fun been a long time but it’ll be worth the wait La I’m coming to fight,” Garcia captioned the post.

Although an opponent for Garcia is yet to be decided, unbeaten lightweight Rolly Romero had claimed back in May that a fight was arranged in July, and also said that he was going to KO Garcia.
