Former interim WBC lightweight champ Ryan Garcia is tired of people pointing out that he is not 100 percent dedicated to boxing.

I’m tired of people disrespecting me every day: Ryan Garcia

One of the most popular boxers in the world, Garcia is famed not only for his in-ring avatar, but also on the outside, especially on social media as well as YouTube. The fame has also brought him lots of criticism, with many comparing him with today’s YouTube boxers, and claiming that he does not take boxing seriously.

However, “Ry” disagrees. During a recent interview with Manouk Akopyan, the 25-year-old explained how seriously he takes the sport. Showing his abs, Garcia pointed out that Mexicans like him are not born with that abdomen but have to work on it every day, as well as mentioning the fact that he has never failed to make weight.

“I no longer think about what people say”, said Garcia. “How do you know if I’m dedicated or not? How do you know if I train or not? If I looked very out of shape, then I would understand them saying that I am not dedicated to boxing, but I am always muscular and fit.How did I build these abs? I am Mexican, Mexicans are not born with this abdomen. I train to have it like this. I have to do abdominal training routines every day. And eat clean. For me there are no tortillas, and that’s screwed. There is no roast meat either.”.

“I have never failed to make the weight,” he went on, “I have worked extremely hard to be able to get down to the most difficult weight divisions you can imagine. You can’t reach 136 pounds without having to train very hard. I can swear that to you. I have had to find even very unhealthy ways, such as extreme dehydration. Imagine having to cut weight and not being able to drink water. That’s hard work. That’s dedication. I have earned my place. I’m tired of people disrespecting me every day. I’ve been in boxing since I was seven years old, training with my dad every day, and fighting to get here. I’m tired of people saying I’m not dedicated enough to boxing.”
