Originally, the Australian GP was scheduled to take place in Qatar but the organisers announced on Thursday that there has been a little change in the plans – instead of the Australian GP, the Formula One Grand Prix will be held in its place in the month of November. Usually, the season always begins with the Australian GP event, but its organisers decided that it would be a better idea to shift the event to the end of the season due to the covid-19 restrictions at a place in the country. But despite that, the event was cancelled. This is the second time that this has happened.
Stefano Domenicali, the F1 president and CEO welcomed the nation to the Formula One calendar.
“We are very pleased to welcome Qatar to the Formula 1 calendar this season and for the longer term from 2023. We have shown that we can continue to adapt and there is huge interest in our sport and the hope from many locations to have a Grand Prix.”
The year has been pretty challenging for the sports circuits to arrange events globally due to the ongoing pandemic. It was not any different for Formula One, but due to the immense support that it received from the fans worldwide and the staff that they have been able to pull off a 22 race calendar.
“The huge effort from all the teams, F1 and the FIA has made it possible to deliver a 22 race calendar, something that is very impressive during a challenging year and something we can all be proud of.”
Qatar agreed to host Formula One Grand Prix for the next 10 years
The Formula One Grand Prix will be held at Losail International Circuit, just north of Doha. The event is set to begin on November 21. Fans will have a lot to look forward to as this is only the beginning. The race will be followed by even more events in Saudi Arabia and then the finale will be held in Abu Dhabi. The country will be hosting the event for 10 more years, starting from 2023, as it has recently signed a contract stating that. The calendar for 2023 will be announced at a later date.
