In a recent Twitter post, NBA legend Paul Pierce didn’t hold back when discussing the Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to raise their In-Season Tournament banner. Paul Pierce, who famously brought a championship to the Boston Celtics in 2008 alongside Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo, had some strong words for the Lakers.

Legion Hoops, a prominent social media account dedicated to basketball news, captured Pierce’s remarks in a tweet. The tweet reads:

“Paul Pierce calls out the Lakers for raising their In-Season Tournament banner:

“If we win the In-Season Tournament, we’re not raising up a banner. Let the Lakers do that. We can make it into a carpet and put it in the hallway or something.”

The Lakers celebrated their victory in the inaugural In-Season Tournament by raising a banner at Crypto.com Arena. However, Pierce wasn’t impressed. He stated, “If we win the In-Season Tournament, we’re not putting up a banner. Let the Lakers do that. We can make it into a carpet and put it in the hallway or something.”

Paul Pierce’s Perspective

Pierce’s comments reflect his competitive spirit and loyalty to the Celtics. With 19 years in the NBA, he knows what it takes to win championships. For him, banners should be reserved for the ultimate achievement—the NBA Finals. The In-Season Tournament, while a commendable feat, doesn’t carry the same weight.

Lakers’ Motivation

Some speculate that the Lakers raised the banner as a direct jab at their historic rivals, the Celtics. Paul Pierce himself theorized, “They did that to spite the Celtics, bro. We got 17, so they want more.” The Lakers’ 17 championships tie them with the Celtics, and perhaps this move was their way of asserting dominance.
