In a whirlwind of adrenaline and nerves, Oliver Bearman, the 18-year-old British racing prodigy, etched his name into Formula 1 history. Stepping into the cockpit of a scarlet Ferrari, Bearman embarked on a journey that would forever define his racing career.

Oliver Bearman got an Unexpected Call-Up

Bearman’s debut was anything but ordinary. With Carlos Sainz sidelined due to appendicitis, Ferrari turned to their young reserve driver. The morning sun at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix illuminated the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, and Bearman found himself thrust into the spotlight. His mission? To tame the beast that is Formula 1.

Starting from P11 on the grid, Bearman attacked the track with the ferocity of a seasoned veteran. Overtaking maneuvers on Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hulkenberg showcased his raw talent. But it wasn’t just the physical exertion that left him breathless; it was the mental strain. As the race unfolded, the threat of Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton loomed large. The latter, a seven-time world champion, was breathing down Bearman’s neck.

“Destroyed. Physically it was a really difficult race!” Bearman confessed after the race. “Especially in the end, when I had the two guys on soft tires behind me, I had to basically push flat out. It was a mentally difficult race as expected, and physically I was struggling too, but great fun out there.”

But the pinnacle of Bearman’s day came when he crossed paths with Lewis Hamilton. “A very proud moment,” Bearman admitted. “To have Lewis recognize my effort – it’s something I’ll cherish forever.”
