Former NBA player Noah Vonleh recently shed light on his tumultuous experience with the Shanghai Sharks basketball team in China. His shocking allegations reveal a pattern of mistreatment, financial disputes, and unprofessional conduct.
New York Basketball (@NBA_NewYork) brought the situation to light by sharing Vonleh’s Instagram story which stated:
“This is how the Shanghai Sharks treat their players. Got me sleeping in the lobby. Won’t let me get in my room.”

These accusations, if true, paint a concerning picture of the organization’s treatment of its players and raise serious questions about player welfare within the CBA.
Financial Grievances
Noah Vonleh’s troubles began with financial discrepancies. The Shanghai Sharks allegedly owed him both his playoff bonus from the 2021-2022 season and the remaining balance of his salary for the 2023-2024 season. Despite his contributions on the court, the team failed to honor their contractual obligations.
Coercion Tactics
But the challenges didn’t end there. Noah Vonleh faced pressure to return from an injury prematurely. Despite medical advice advising against it, the organization pushed him to play. The Sharks’ actions escalated, culminating in a disturbing incident during which six individuals—reportedly sent by the general manager—attempted to forcibly remove him from his hotel room.
Wrongful Termination
In February 2024, the Sharks took an extreme step: they wrongfully terminated Vonleh’s contract. This move aimed to evade their responsibilities, leaving Vonleh without a team and further exacerbating the situation.
Noah Vonleh’s Public Revelation
Taking to social media, Noah Vonleh labeled the Shanghai Sharks the “worst organization” he has ever played for. His claims of unpaid dues, coercion, and mistreatment have sparked debate among fans and observers. Some question why he chose to share his grievances publicly only after the alleged incidents occurred.
