Mike Tyson, the former world heavyweight champion who served three years in jail after being convicted of rape in 1992, is in trouble again.
A woman, whose identity remains anonymous, accused Tyson of raping her in the early 1990s and she is now seeking $5 million from the boxing legend for the alleged rape incident, resulting in ‘physical, psychological and emotional injury’.
According to the woman’s account, who want to keep her identity a secret, the former boxer sexually assaulted her after they met at a nightclub in Albany, New York. The incident had happened in a limousine.
“I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me,” said the woman, “he then pulled my pants off and violently raped me.”
The accusation is filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Law, in which victims of sexual assault have until November 23rd to file lawsuits for assaults that occurred years or decades ago.
The woman also stated that she wants her name not to be known because it “would certainly pose a risk to me of further mental harm, harassment, ridicule or personal embarrassment.”
In a separate filing, the woman’s attorney Darren Seilback cited that they had accepted the woman’s allegations after investigations and found them credible.
Tyson, who began his professional boxing career in 1985 and became champion in 1986, had already had similar problems. He was accused of rape by Desiree Washington and found guilty, for which he received a six-year sentence, of which he served three years in prison.
Tyson, who is currently 56 years old, runs his own podcast and owns a company that is dedicated to growing cannabis.
