Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer may see his stint end with the franchise if the team does not make a deep playoffs run this season. The Bucks are currently placed third on the Eastern Conference table with a handful of matches left in the regular season.

After winning the coach of the year award following the team’s 60 wins in the league and a conference finals finish two years back, Budenholzer’s stint is under pressure as the post-season looms by.

According to The Athletic, the coach’s future with the team lies entirely on how the franchise finishes the season.

“A first-round loss would be the doomsday scenario, and even a second-round loss would seem nearly impossible for him to survive,”

With one more season and upwards of $7 million remaining on his contract, he simply must find a way for the Bucks to end this season in a far better place than they did the last,”

Last year, after securing the top seed in the division with a 56-17 record, the Bucks faced a humiliating exit in the second round of the playoffs to eventual conference winners, the Miami Heat.

There was a considerable amount of frustration towards the coach behind the loss claim reports. The management believes that Budenholzer did not adjust accordingly during the 4-1 loss to the NBA finalists.

The 51-year-old has lead the team to optimal places in the conference table having the services of Giannis Antetokounmpo and co. However, the side have lacked the edge to come out victorious in the knockout playoff legs.

The acquisitions of veterans Jrue Holiday and PJ Tucker have made the side stronger who are set to make it to their fifth consecutive playoffs.

Eastern Conference a tough playground for Budenholzer and the Bucks now

Having dominated the East for almost the entirety of the last two seasons, the Bucks have had stiff competition from the likes of Philadelphia 76ers and the revamped Brooklyn Nets.

Moreover, the improvement in franchises like Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks will certainly not make things easier for the Bucks from the next season.

The Bucks have put up a string of impressive victories which include a back-to-back against the Brooklyn Nets and over the in-form Washington Wizards. They next face the Houston Rockets at the Fiserv Forum.
